The management staff of the Senior Wales Women’s National Squad, on behalf of the Welsh Lacrosse Association, have announced the 18 players and 2 reserves that will represent the Wales team at the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup.
The team will be captained by defender Hellie Kellett-Clarke, attacker Ros Lloyd-Rout, and midfielder Ellie Walshe, and features an exciting mix of veterans and young talent. Lloyd-Rout and teammate Laura Warren will appear in their fifth World Cups this July, and Emma Hawkins will play in her fourth. Five players make their World Cup debuts, including attacker Ellie Jones who joins the team after captaining the Wales U19 team at the 2015 Junior World Championships.
Mel Wiltshire, Chair of Women’s Performance, gave support and praise to the entire WWLax squad: ‘Congratulations to all those selected to represent Wales! Every single player in the World Cup training squad and the wider Welsh lacrosse family has played a role in the selection of this team. The players have pushed each other incredibly hard for a spot on the roster. From the likes of World Cup veterans to those making their World Cup debut, the squad is bursting with talent. Its an exciting time for Welsh Lacrosse, and we will be with you all the way!’
With the tournament being held in Guildford, the squad are relishing the opportunity to play in front of our UK fans, friends and family. Wales are honoured and excited to be part of the opening fixture as the squad take on hosts England.
